The World’s First and Only (?) Beer-Fueled Scrabble Tournament

Benefitting the Jerry Sisser Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation 

10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Sunday, March 5th

Jerry Sisser, a Findlay resident, was a teacher at Fostoria High School for more than 35 years.  He believed education and literacy were the keys to societal prosperity. He was a Scrabble shark! He was also an aficionado of good booze, and a fan of Findlay Brewing Company. The Scrabble Babble combines two of Jerry’s favorite pastimes, and has been created in his memory to support a scholarship for Hancock County students.

How it works:

Doubles Tournament. Every registered team of two players will play three, 30 minute games.

After three rounds, a 45 minute championship round with the top two teams will take place from 12:15 - 1 p.m. to determine our winners!

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. First of three games will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded throughout the morning for best team name, highest scoring word and more!

Only played Scrabble once with your grandad? No worries! We’ll include instructions. It’s all in fun, it’s beer-fueled, and it’s for a good cause!

Interested in registering solo? No problem! We will pair you up with a partner.

$30 individual registration fee includes an event t-shirt and your first drink!

 Space is limited and you must pre-register by Feb. 26th to receive a t-shirt!

Taproom Details:

We plan to open to the public for drinks and food starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 5. Depending on the number of participants, our open time is subject to change. We will make an announcement here if any changes are made.

Please note: wine and liquor is not available on Sundays. Beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase in addition to our full food menu.

For those not playing in the tournament, there will be limited seating available in the bar area and heated beer garden. Seating is first-come, first-served. If there is a wait for a table, you may add your name to the list here. While waiting for a table, feel free to order a beer at the bar in a DORA cup which will allow you to take your beverage outside throughout downtown Findlay.
